Опис : C:\Documents and Settings\Имя\Рабочий стол\1.jpgVolodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that support of the social dialogue and balance is a key objective of the Parliament for the coming year.

 

V.Lytvyn made this statement, meeting Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Program, UN Deputy Secretary-General.

 

The Head of the Parliament stated that Ukraine had to implement several large-scale reforms, which could not be painless in any country. V.Lytvyn calls for "creating motivation for the public support of reforms", strengthening anti-corruption actions, and ensuring "single, transparent and fair rules of conduct." The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supposes that eradication of corruption will be beneficial for the further development of Ukraine.

 

V.Lytvyn and H.Clark discussed the role of the civil society institutes in the state development.  

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed that representatives of the public and non-governmental organizations were being engaged into the discussion and development of the socially important legislative acts, such as the newly-adopted Tax Code. Ukraine faces qualitative changes, as "the public response to the actions of the power receives feedback among the authorities." "This trend should be consolidated," he stated.

 

Among the objectives of the parliamentary work, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine mentioned adoption of the laws on the pension and economic reforms, and implementation of the administrative reform on the local level.   

 

V.Lytvyn declared that Ukraine attached great importance to the cooperation with the United Nations, especially its Development Program, as the expertise of the Program could support the socio-economic reforms.

V.Lytvyn informed about the intentions of Ukraine to hold the international conference "25th anniversary of Chornobyl Disaster. Future Security" in Kyiv in April 2011.  

 

The UN Deputy Secretary-General reminded that Ukraine is one of the UN founding countries. She also stated that Ukraine was a significant partner of the United Nations due to its important regional role. She called for strengthening the liaison with The Verkhovna Rada within the UN programs.

 

H. Clark declared that the UN Development Program would offer expert assistance to Ukraine in the implementation of reforms and European integration.  

 

Next year, the UN Secretary General is to visit Ukraine on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Chornobyl disaster.
